Kits Released: Japan’s Football Team to Cosplay as Builders at 2014 World Cup

It appears Japan’s love of cosplay – seen most recently at the Tokyo Marathon – will extend to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, where their national football players will be dressing up as roadside construction workers for their away games.

Although the outfield players may now look like a team of over-committed goalkeepers, there is one redeeming aspect that we think is pretty cool – the team badge is woven from the thread of historic kits to “carry the pride and history of past squads to the 2014 World Cup.”

Members of the women’s and futsal teams will no doubt have been dismayed to learn that they will also be expected to wear the hideous fluorescent yellow kits but, thankfully, the home kit will remain the traditional blue (though the vertical red stripe has been removed).
