Pictures: The World’s Most Surreal Graduation Ceremony

Graduation day in Japan is usually a relatively sombre affair of presentations and traditional songs, but at the Kanazawa College of Arts graduates are allowed to come wearing whatever they like and it makes for a entirely different occasion. Rather than your standard “Casual Friday” jeans and a sweater (or, if you’re that guy in the office, a zany tie), they come¬†dressed as anything from Sailor Moon characters to a giant mobile phone.

We’re particularly impressed with the giant cello (bass?) costume, though we’ve no idea how it got through doors, and double points for obscure film references go to the guy who appears to have dressed as Nicolas Cage in Raising Arizona (the picture with the shocked chicken in the background).
