Toyama’s Famous “Snow Tunnel” Road Reopened to Tourists

The Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route is a 37km sightseeing route in Toyama, most famous for this 500m section/Mario Kart stage, which is flanked by snow walls that reach up to 20m high:

The route was reopened for the first time in almost five months last Thursday and will remain accessible by vehicle until November, and on foot until June 22nd. During the winter we can only presume the stretch is inhabited by orcs and other creatures that, like the road itself, we presumed only existed in fantasy novels.
