Based on a survey, rather than a measurement of how deeply people went “Aaaaaaaaaaah,” users of Trip Advisor have chosen Tokyo as the most satisfying city in the world.
The poll based “satisfaction” on sixteen factors, five of which Tokyo was proclaimed number one out of the 37 cities included: cleanliness, taxi services, public transportation, local friendliness and overall satisfaction. While we’d gripe about the fact taxis are so expensive they must be fuelled by unicorn tears, we’d certainly agree with the rest.
In fact, of the 16 categories, Tokyo only finished outside the top ten in three of them: culture, tourism and attractions, and best value for money. Though the devaluation of the yen has made Tokyo a far cheaper prospect, we’d agree that it’s still relatively expensive, but in our (admittedly biased) opinions Tokyo should also be up there for culture and tourism. After all, where else can you go to a cat/owl/goat cafe during the day, spend the night watching women in bikinis battle upon gigantic robot dinosaurs, then pass out on the street without fears for your safety?
