The streets of Shibuya resembled something from a fantasy novel last night, a red moon brooding above the neon lights as a blonde girl accompanied by men in black masks and hoods walked a polar bear through the crowds at Scramble Crossing.
The red moon was, of course, a lunar eclipse, but nobody seems quite sure about the foreign girl and her unusual pet. Obviously it wasn’t real – even if she could control an animal of that size she wouldn’t be allowed to endanger the public with it – but what was it? And why?
A quick search of “渋谷 シロクマ“, Shibuya polar bear, on Twitter shows that dozens of people took pictures and recorded video so we can rule out CGI. That leaves us with animatronics, a guy in a suit, or good old-fashioned witchcraft. What do you think?
The word “Lalsh” appeared on the group’s clothing and a Facebook account under that name has promised to reveal all in Shinjuku on October 24th, so we’ll find out for sure then…
